The Stracey English School was founded in July 1964 by Ralph Stracey ICS [Retd.] to honour the parents of the Stracey family, namely Daniel Augustine and Ethel Henrietta who made unbounded sacrifices for the education of their children.
This venture was undertaken in collaboration with his brothers, namely :
Mr. P R Stracey, IFS Chief Conservator of Forests, Department of India. Indian Forest Service [Retd] and author of books – Elephant Gold, Tigers and others. After retirement he did an assignment for the Government of Ethiopia and a further assignment of the Government of India in North East India.
Mr. C J Stracey, Indian Foreign Service, who retired as Indian Ambassador to Finland.
Mr. C L Stracey, Indian Police, who retired as the first ever appointed Director General of Police of the State in India, Tamil Nadu.
The Board of management consisted of (1) Mr. Ralph Stracey, President, ER Wilson, Surveyor General of India [Retd], Vice President, Mrs. N M Stracey, Secretary, Mr. E C Gayanor, Retd. Deputy Secretary to Government of India and others.
After the demise of their mother in 1971 the school was renamed STRACEY MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL. The school was started with one pupil, and now has a strength of 2400 from LKG to PUC.
